A Night to Remember

On May 1, 2007, Emily Lam cooked a full meal for the first time. She washed the vegetables, picked out the fat in the chicken thighs, cut the sausages, cooked rice, and bravely faced the stove as she cooked away! Of course, she couldn't have done that without the help of her wonderful mother who taught and waited patiently as Emily took twice as long to prepare the meal. I asked what my mom was thinking as I clumsily marinated the chicken. She chuckled and said, "My daughter is cooking." Enough said. :-)

At first, I thought the whole deal about going to each other's places and cooking for each other was just a matter of breaking into our comfort zones, which is true. However, after that unbelievable night, I also learned how to be a humble servant. I believe the four of us are learning that every time we meet. This is the beauty of serving each other. We're serving each other because we're brothers and sisters in Christ, just as how Jesus came to serve rather than to be served (Mark 10:45). If even our King came to serve, who are we to not do the same? But it is important to remember that it is God we're serving.

As a co-leader, it's important to stay humble and not fall into the "I've been there done that" mentality. And seriously, there are so many new things to learn as a co-leader, so it doesn't matter which position I'm in or how many times I've been on a missions trip. There are always different things to learn.

Ohhhhh, so that's why Rick dived into the lengthy explanation of the four Gospels! Obviously, silence doesn't bother me much. :-P I'm usually lost in my own thoughts or music anyway. Our next meeting is about a week and a half away. Maybe that'll give us time to miss each other enough to have those not so deep conversations............ awww, but I like deep conversations. :-P

Thanks for speaking, Rick!
Until next time!
