Love

Here's a couple stories from today's sermon that I thought I'd share.

One day hen and pig were walking down the street together. They came to a Church and posted on the door was the title of that Sunday's sermon, it read: Love the Poor. Convicted, hen turned to pig and said, "We should do something for the poor. Lets feed them eggs and bacon!" Pig replied, "That sounds like a great idea hen, but I don't know if I am comfortable with that. For you it only requires a contribution, but for me it requires total commitment..."

(= This next story is true, maybe you've heard it before.

There was once a young boy who was diagnosed with a serious blood disease, but after some time his body was able to fight off the disease and he recovered. Just as he recovered it was discovered that his little sister had contracted the same disease but she was not doing well against it. Her only hope was to receive a blood transfusion from someone who had recovered from the same disease. Since the two siblings had the same rare blood type the girl's brother was the only available donor. The doctor and the boy's parents approached him and asked, "Tommy would you be willing to give your blood to your sister to help her get better?" Tommy hesitated, then with his lower lip trembling slightly he mustered a smile and said, "Sure, for my sister, I will." The children were prepped for the procedure, Tommy was healthy and ready while his sister lay next to him pale and gaunt. Tommy looked apprehensive but when their eyes met he grinned reassuringly at his sister. His smile faded, however, as the nurse inserted the needle into Tommy's arm and he watched his blood flow out of his body. The room was silent as they lay there. Then as the procedure was coming to and end Tommy broke the silence, "Doctor, when do I die?" he asked with a grim expression. At that moment the doctor understood Tommy's earlier hesitation. He had thought that giving blood to his sister meant giving up his own life. Yet he still agreed to through with it.

(*= <--that was me.

That is love. Am I ready to do something about the love that I say that I have for God? Am I ready to give it all, like He did for us? Am I ready to stop giving eggs and start giving some bacon?
